What to expect when working with me

Homeopathy Consultations in Brighton & Online

Beginning homeopathic treatment can come with a lot of questions, especially if you haven't worked with a homeopath before.

What will I ask you? How much do you need to tell me? What happens after the appointment? How are remedies chosen? And how often will we meet?

This page takes you through the process from your discovery call onwards, so you can know what to expect before we begin.

Why choose homeopathy with me?

My approach to homeopathy is individualised, integrative and relational. Rather than following a standard protocol for a diagnosis, I look at the particular way your symptoms are presenting and how different aspects of your health may be connected.

I trained in classical homeopathy, but my practice today draws from both classical and modern approaches. This gives me the flexibility to adapt treatment to the person in front of me rather than trying to fit everyone into one particular method.

The relationship we develop is also an important part of the work. You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to say or how to describe everything. We work it out together, over time.

My commitment to you

A compassionate, inclusive space. Your story matters. I listen without judgment, respecting your unique experiences, circumstances, and family dynamics.

Individualised care. Your treatment is based on your particular presentation rather than a standard protocol or remedy attached to a diagnosis.

Honest communication. I will explain what I am prescribing, what I am looking for and when I think we should wait rather than intervene.

A pace that suits you. Prescriptions and follow-up timing are individualised. Particularly with complex or sensitive presentations, I avoid making too many changes at once and allow time to observe what happens before deciding on the next step.

Working alongside other care. Homeopathy does not require you to abandon conventional medicine or other forms of treatment. Where several approaches are being used, I can help you think about pacing and avoid changing too many things at once.

The process: Step by step

1. Your discovery call

A free 20-minute discovery call gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what you are looking for and whether I may be a good fit for you.

You can also ask questions about my approach or how homeopathic treatment works.

A discovery call is completely optional. If you already feel comfortable booking, you can go straight ahead and arrange your first consultation.

2. Your first appointment

Your first consultation gives us time to build a detailed picture of what is happening for you. We will talk about your current symptoms, when they began, what makes them better or worse, your health history and anything else that may be relevant. Depending on your situation, we may also explore sleep, digestion, energy, sensitivities, hormonal health, emotional wellbeing, previous illnesses, medications and treatments.

You don't need to arrive with everything organised into a perfect medical history. Homeopathic case-taking is a conversation. I will ask questions as we go, and sometimes something that seems unimportant to you may turn out to be useful information for me.

3. Receiving and taking your remedies

After your appointment, I take some time to review my notes and decide on your prescription. Depending on your presentation, this may involve one remedy, a sequence of remedies, or occasionally additional homeopathic or complementary support. I will explain clearly what I would like you to take, how often to take it and what I would like you to observe.

If you are a local client living in Brighton or within 15 miles of Brighton, prescribed homeopathic remedies are included in your consultation fees. If you live further away, I will send you your prescription and instructions for ordering the remedies you need.

4. Your follow-up appointments

Follow-ups are usually scheduled around four to eight weeks apart, although this varies depending on the person and their presentation. We review what you have noticed since your previous appointment, including individual symptoms, general wellbeing and any other relevant changes.

Sometimes I change the prescription. At other times, I may continue the same remedy or adjust its potency, dose or frequency. Homeopathic treatment does not necessarily involve continually adding remedies. I prescribe with a clear purpose and allow sufficient time for observation before deciding what comes next.

On testing, herbs and pharmaceuticals

You do not need to stop medication, supplements, herbs or other treatments in order to work with me. If you are already receiving conventional, functional or complementary care, please tell me what you are taking. This helps me understand the whole picture and, where possible, avoid introducing too many changes at once. If you are considering changing or stopping prescribed medication, that decision should be discussed with the clinician responsible for prescribing it.

Testing can sometimes provide useful additional information, particularly in complex cases, but it is not essential for homeopathic treatment. If you already have relevant blood tests, nutrient testing, hormone results, mycotoxin testing, organic acids, stool testing or other investigations, you are welcome to send them to me. I may use them to better understand the wider context of your health, but I don't select homeopathic remedies from laboratory results alone.

Where additional testing could be useful, I can also arrange testing through GutMapDx. Depending on what we are trying to understand, this may include gut microbiome and microbial screening, oral microbiome testing, food sensitivity testing, or DNAMap genetic testing, which looks at selected genetic variants related to areas such as digestion, metabolism, stress, immunity, nutrient handling, stimulants, exercise and sleep. GutMapDx's microbiome testing can also provide information about microbial diversity and, depending on the test chosen, screen for fungi, parasites, pathogenic bacteria, viruses and archaea. I don't routinely recommend testing for everyone. If I think additional testing could give us genuinely useful information, I will discuss this with you first. Equally, if you don't want further testing, we can still work together.

Disclaimer: Commercial test results do not replace medical diagnosis or investigation. I do not use them to diagnose medical conditions, and I may recommend discussing significant or unexpected findings with your GP or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Preparing for your first appointment

You don't need to do a lot of preparation before your consultation. If you would like to arrive with a few things written down, it can be helpful to think about:

- your main current symptoms and when they began

- anything that noticeably makes them better or worse

- significant illnesses, diagnoses or events in your health history

- medications, supplements and other treatments you currently used and have used in the past

- what you would most like to change through treatment

- if you have recent test results that you think may be relevant, you can also send those to me

If brain fog, fatigue, overwhelm or simply a tight schedule means you arrive without having prepared anything at all, that's completely fine. I will guide the conversation.

What can happen after your first appointment?

People can feel very different after a first consultation. Sometimes there is a sense of relief after finally having the space to tell their whole story to someone. Other times people feel tired or emotional after talking about difficult things.

Once you begin taking your remedies, make a note of any changes you observe without feeling that you need to analyse every small fluctuation. This may include changes in your original concerns, general wellbeing, sleep, energy, mood or digestion.

Experiences vary, and I cannot predict which changes an individual will notice or whether symptoms will improve. If something happens that concerns you or you are unsure how to continue the prescription, please contact me. Otherwise, we will review your observations properly at your follow-up appointment.

Your treatment over time

There is no standard length or fixed sequence for homeopathic treatment. The prescription and follow-up schedule depend on your individual presentation and what is observed over time.

A prescription may remain unchanged for a period, or I may adjust the remedy, potency, dose or frequency as different aspects of your presentation become clearer.

My role is to observe the overall picture with you, explain my prescribing decisions and make adjustments where appropriate. I cannot predict or guarantee a particular outcome or timeframe.

Children's appointments

If you are booking for your child, the session will be tailored to their age and communication style.

Young children (0-6 years): They don’t need to attend the entire session. I will primarily speak with you as the parent or guardian to gather relevant information, but it’s helpful if your child is present for a short time so I can observe their behaviour, energy, and temperament. If this is not possible at all, I will ask you to email me some photos and/or a short video of your child.

Older children (7+ years): If your child can communicate, I will ask them age-appropriate questions about how they feel and what they experience.

Teenagers: For teens, I will direct most of the conversation with them while involving you when needed (e.g., early childhood history). If your teen prefers to attend alone, please email me in advance to discuss this option.

The goal is always to create a supportive, relaxed environment where your child feels comfortable and heard.

If your teen does not want to attend at all, I will ask you to email me some photos and/or a short video of them.
